When your doctor determines surgery is the next step, you will meet with the surgeon’s scheduler for an individualized education program as well as learn how to plan for surgery and review dates for surgery.
This discussion could also happen over the phone if you would like to think about surgery before picking a date or if you are seen at one of our satellite offices or you may want to try non-operative treatments first.
We will create a special report for you with the information that you need, such as all the important dates and tasks leading up to surgery, the actual date of surgery, pre-testing dates and information to bring, things to avoid before and after surgery, if any prior authorization needed and any forms that are needed.
The scheduler and care team will review your medical history to determine which clearances are needed (if any) before your surgery. For instance, if you are a tobacco user, a Smokelyzer test is performed to establish a baseline level. Information will be provided regarding tobacco cessation programs. If needed, we work very closely with your PCP and other medical specialists.
All of your important dates for testing, surgery and even your first post operative appointment will be made ahead of time to help you plan and avoid any delays in your surgery.
