Who is Dr. Kenneth Urish?

Ken Urish, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor at the University ofPittsburgh Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has extensive experience with minimally invasive techniques, robotic surgery, and joint replacement inactive, high demand patients. He is the first and only orthopaedic surgeon in Pittsburgh to be a member of The Knee Society, an international invitation-only organization of about 100 active members who are the recognized thought-leaders, innovators, and educators.

Dr. Urish is director of the Arthritis and Arthroplasty Design Laboratory. Funded by the NIH, the group’s focus is on arthritis prevention, rapid recovery and optimizing high functional outcomes after surgery, and preventing complications. He is a principal investigator on a series of prospective clinical and FDA studies. His group has more than 200 research publications and abstracts and includes multiple patents and Nature group publications. He has spoken internationally on these subjects.

Dr. Urish's Training

A Pittsburgh native, Dr. Urish graduated with honors in Chemical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University under scholarship from the National Science Foundation. He attended the University of Pittsburgh Medical School under full scholarship and was president of his medical school class. His doctoral thesis was in Bioengineering and focused on adult stem cell regenerative medicine. As a Visiting Scientist with the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute, he focused on the use of artificial intelligence in medicine. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Penn State where he was also a Chief Resident. During his Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at the Massachusetts General Hospital, he served on the faculty of Harvard Medical School.
