What to Expect At Your Appointment
We have developed a pre-op testing and teaching program at the Bone and Joint Center. Please plan to be here approximately 2 hours for your pre-op testing appointment.
When you arrive at the hospital you may park in the garage. You have the option to valet park. Please pay for your parking in the main lobby prior to exiting the hospital.
You will meet with a Nurse Practitioner and have a history and physical, blood work, EKG, urinalysis, and education. A chest x-ray may be ordered if you have a have a lung condition. You may need clearance for your surgery from your Primary Care Physician (PCP) and/or a specialist, i.e., cardiologist etc.
You may meet with your surgeon on that day.
Feel free to request a Tour of 4100 and the gym.

What to Expect At Your Appointment
Injections
How are ABNORMAL test results handled?
The physician assistant will contact you directly if you have an abnormal test result. You may be required to see your PCP before surgery.
What if I am sick BEFORE surgery?
If you are feeling sick before surgery, you should notify the office as soon as possible. The pre-op nurses will be notified. Your surgery will need to be cleared by your surgeon whether to proceed with surgery or postpone your surgery.
If you are sick with covid, your surgery will be postponed at least 4 weeks. If you are a diabetic patient with covid, surgery will be postponed for at least 6-8 weeks.

Call from the nurse day before surgery
You will receive a call the day before surgery between 8 AM and 1 PM for an arrival time on the day of surgery and you will be given pre-op instructions.
If your surgery is on a Monday, you will receive your call on the Friday prior to your surgery date.

Your Day of Surgery Run Down
When you arrive at the hospital you may park in the garage. The pre-op unit will provide a discounted parking ticket. A free parking ticket is provided to you on the day of discharge to home. Your visitors have the option of valet parking. Please pay for your parking in the main lobby.
Once you arrive to the hospital, please check in at the registration desk in the main lobby. You and your family/coach will be directed to the 3rd floor, surgical waiting area. Please sign in at the registration desk.
The Care Team will come out to greet you and escort you back to the pre-op area. Once your nurse has you settled, your family/coach will be brought back with you until your time of surgery.
Once you are in the pre-op area, you will change into a hospital gown provided for you, the nurse will perform a short physical assessment, your surgeon will meet with you, and you will be introduced to your anesthesia team who will discuss their plan.
Your surgical site will also be identified and marked prior to your surgery.

Family/Coach Experience During Surgery Recover and Family Lounge
Your surgeon will direct your coach/family to the Community Room on the 4100 nursing unit. Please have your coach/family check in at the nurses’ station at the end of the hallway.
One of the 4100 unit Team Members will direct your coach/family to wait in the Community Room until they receive a phone call from the surgeon with updates on your surgery.
Your coach/family may also utilize the tracking board which provides the progress of your surgery such as when surgery has started and when you are transferred to the recovery room.
One family member/coach is permitted to stay the night with you if desired and you are in a private room.
