Pain Control - Managing Your Discomfort
Post-operative Pain Management:
- Tylenol (Acetaminophen)
- NSAIDS (aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen)
- Celebrex (COX-2 inhibitors)
Many insurance companies require prior authorization for Celebrex. Once you are given a surgery date, please call your insurance company and ask if you need prior authorization. Please call your surgical coordinator to let us know and we will obtain the authorization.
Multimodal Pain Protocols
Goal: Manage pain with oral pain medications and limit use of IV narcotics
- Pain medication cocktail
- Oral narcotic
- Celebrex (COX-2 inhibitors) or Meloxicam
- Tylenol (Acetaminophen)
- NSAIDs (Aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen)
- Atypical pain medication (gabapentin, pregabalin)
- CPM for knee patients
- Ice program
